Aspartame- your chewing gum’s secret

Go pick up any chewing gum product and read its contents and you will most likely find an ingredient called Aspartame.

Aspartame is an artificial, non- saccharide sweetener used as a sugar substitute in some foods and beverages. The most notable name brand of aspartame is Nutra-sweet.

America’s store bought FDA has approved this harmful excito-toxin with the help of a big pharmaceutical giant (Monsanto), predatory lobbyists and a government hustler like Mr. Donald Rumsfeld who made sure this poison was approved. The big corporations and their store bought scientists have been able to disguise the dangerous effects of this toxin by providing false data and setting up flawed experiments.

Aspartame must be completely avoided by people with the genetic condition phenylketonuria (PKU). Upon ingestion, aspartame breaks down into natural residual components, including aspartic acid , phenylalanine, methanol, and further breakdown products include formaldehyde and formic acid, accumulation of the latter being suspected as the major cause of injury in methanol poisoning. Under strongly acidic or alkaline conditions, aspartame may generate methanol by hydrolysis.

Aspartame was first synthesized in 1965 by James M. Schlatter, a chemist working for G.D Searle & Company (link to drug company). In 1980, the FDA convened a Public Board of Inquiry (PBOI) consisting of independent advisors charged with examining the purported relationship between aspartame and brain cancer. The findings of these studies have been in dispute and this toxin was then quickly pushed into the American food market.

You may not know what methanol (wood alcohol) is or its harmful effects:

1. Methanol (wood alcohol) has a high toxicity in humans. If ingested, as little as 10 mL can cause permanent blindness by destruction of the optic nerve and 30 mL is potentially fatal, although a fatal dose is typically 100–125 mL (4 fl oz).
Link: Toxic effects take hours to start and effective antidotes can often prevent permanent damage.Methanol is toxic by two mechanisms. Firstly, methanol (whether it enters the body by ingestion, inhalation, or absorption through the skin) can be fatal due to its CNS depressant properties in the same manner as ethanol poisoning. Secondly, in a process of toxication, it is metabolised to formic acid (which is present as the formate ion) via formaldehyde in a process initiated by the enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase in the liver.[10] The reaction to formate proceeds completely, with no detectable formaldehyde remaining.[11] Formate is toxic because it inhibits mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase, causing the symptoms of hypoxia at the cellular level, and also causing metabolic acidosis among a variety of other metabolic disturbances.[12] Fetal tissue will not tolerate methanol.

The initial symptoms of methanol intoxication included central nervous system depression, headache, dizziness, nausea, lack of coordination, confusion, and with sufficiently large doses, unconsciousness and death.
2. High levels of the naturally-occurring essential amino acid phenylalanine are a health hazard to those born with phenylketonuria (PKU), a rare inherited disease that prevents phenylalanine from being properly metabolized. Since individuals with PKU must consider aspartame as an additional source of phenylalanine, foods containing aspartame sold in the United States must state “Phenylketonurics: Contains Phenylalanine” on their product label.

Phenylalanine is a hidden danger to anyone consuming aspartame. Most consumers don’t know that too much Phenylalanine is a neurotoxin and excites the neurons in the brain to the point of cellular death.

ADD/ADHD, emotional and behavioral disorders can all be triggered by too much Phenylalanine in the daily diet. If you are one in ten thousand people who are PKU or carry the PKU gene, Phenylalanine can cause irreversible brain damage and death, especially when used in high quantities or during pregnancy. Phenylalanine is 50% of aspartame, and to the degree humans consume diet products, Phenylalanine levels are reaching a dangerous peak. This corrupt system is a revovlving door of diagnosis, drugs and side effects. Our children are pisioned with mind altering chemicals like phylalnlen and then ADD occurs and the next thing you know your child is taking alk types of mediation in special education and is on legal drugs for the rest of his or her life

It is important to learn about the ingredients within your foods, especially isolated amino acids like Phenylalanine. They are in combination within nature for a reason – they don’t belong in isolated form for the healthy human diet.

“Nutrition” fact about Phenylalanine in aspartame:

The 1976 Groliers encyclopedia states cancer cannot live without phenylalanine. Phenylalanine makes up 50% of aspartame.

Phenylalanine is one of the essential amino acids found in proteins, but I am one of the believers that amino acids should be eaten in combination, not in isolated form. Nature provides amino acids in combination; only man isolates them for processing purposess

Phenylalanine is found naturally in foods such as eggs, milk, bananas, and meat. If you are PKU (Phenylketonuric) or sensitive to phenylalanine, you will react to the phenylalanine in aspartame. You may want to get a blood test to check for this condition. Over the past 20 years, humans have become more aware of PKU reactions because human beings began using isolated phenylalanine to the degree it is harmful to some individuals, many as aspartame side effects. My suggestion would be to research PKU and phenylalanine extensively. Phenylalanine can be very harmful to diabetics.
Read all food labels and avoid anything with isolated amino acids.

You want to buy products with at least eight amino acids in combination.

In the UK, foods that contain aspartame are legally required by the country’s Food Standards Agency to list the chemical among the product’s ingredients and carry the warning “Contains a source of phenylalanine” – this is usually at the foot of the list of ingredients. Equal, NutraSweet and Canderel are ingredients of approximately 6,000 consumer foods and beverages sold worldwide, including (but not limited to) diet sodas and other soft drinks, instant breakfasts, breath mints, cereals, sugar-free chewing gum, cocoa mixes, frozen desserts, gelatin desserts, juices, laxatives, chewable vitamins supplements, milk drinks, pharmaceutical drugs and supplements, shake mixes, tabletop sweeteners, teas, instant coffees, topping mixes, wine coolers and yogurt
